Each round of Blackjack begins with placing a bet. After bets are placed the dealer gives every player two cards — one face up, one face down. The dealer also receives two cards, one face up and one placed face down.
Card values are counted as follows — cards 2 through 10 are counted at their face value. Jack, Queen and King each count as 10. An Ace counts as either 1 or 11, whichever is more favourable for the player.
The goal is to score higher than the dealer without going over 21. If your score exceeds 21, that is a "bust" and the bet is lost. On each turn a player can draw another card (Hit), stop drawing (Stand), double the bet (Double Down), or if applicable split the cards (Split).
Once all players have finished their turns, the dealer flips the face-down card and draws according to the rules. The dealer generally does not draw any more cards on 17 or above. Scores are then compared to determine wins and losses.
